recent reads and recommendations...
The Opposite of Loneliness, Marina Keegan: Wow. A collection of essays and fiction from a talented young voice. Recommended for: outstanding for college students and a reminder of what those years were like for those who haven't hung out on a campus in a few years.
Harness the Storm, Sharon Lee Villone: An impressive debut novel with excellent and courageous story-telling. Recommended for: the beach reader, the winter snow storm reader, or the "I really need to be sucked into a novel and stay up all night to finish it" reader.
Psyched Up, Daniel McGinn: Because pep rallies should not be secluded to high schools. Solid stories of how successful folks prepare for a challenge. Recommended for: work teams, volunteer groups, and anyone up for new ideas on improving thyself.
Black Beauty, Anna Sewell: Catching up on a classic I didn't read as a child and in awe of the spirit of the author who wrote only one magical book in her short life. Recommended for: we all should have read this. But if you didn't, I have proven there is still time.
Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls: Wow. Recommended for: those who are taken with incredible detail, memory, language, and who want to pass a book around to friends when done reading. You will. I did.
Ruminate Magazine, Brianna Van Dyke, ed.: Recommended for: writers who are also seekers...love the words and the art.
The New Yorker: (The forever stack on my nightstand.) Admittedly, never the whole issue...first the funnies, then short fiction, then a few long reports that keep me up way too late at night. Recommended for: those with an undeterred attention span.
